Flow systems

When a continuous large capacity of purified water is required

A parallel configuration with three or more de-ironing units

Cascade configuration

When a large water demand cannot be met by a single or serial de-ironing unit, a parallel configuration offers the ideal solution. In a parallel setup, multiple de-ironing units can be installed, each drawing water individually from the source pump. The possibilities are endless: Remon can connect 3, 4, 5, or even up to 20 de-ironing units to the source using this configuration. This enables the purification of very large volumes of water. A parallel setup with three or more de-ironing units is called a flow system, but it is also commonly referred to as a cascade configuration.

Why choose a flow system instead of one (very)

large unit?

A flow system offers significant advantages over a single large installation. In practice, one very large de-ironing unit would simply be too large to transport, install efficiently, or fit within the available space. Moreover, the continuity of water supply plays a crucial role. With a single large installation, a regeneration cycle means that the supply of purified water temporarily comes to a complete stop. In a flow system, this is not an issue: when one unit regenerates, the other de-ironing units remain in operation, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply.

In terms of operational reliability, a flow system also provides clear benefits. A single large installation is subject to greater mechanical stress, which leads to faster wear and tear. Multiple smaller installations share the workload, resulting in a significantly longer overall lifespan. Maintenance can also be performed on individual units without disrupting water delivery. Additionally, parts for very large installations are often difficult to obtain and expensive. In contrast, with Remon’s flow system, our technicians usually have all necessary parts readily available in their service vans, allowing for quick response times in the event of a defect—and the parts themselves are considerably more affordable.

Thanks to its modular design, distributed wear, and guaranteed continuity during regeneration cycles, a flow system represents a reliable and sustainable solution. It combines high capacity with flexibility and practical implementation, making it the most logical choice in many cases over a single, very large installation.

Unlimited possibilities with regard to

Capacity

A flow system offers maximum flexibility and capacity in water treatment. Each de-ironing unit is individually supplied by a central booster pump set, ensuring a constant and reliable water flow. The capacity of the system is limited only by the available source water, meaning that continuity is maintained even during periods of high water demand.

A flow system is modular in design and can easily be expanded with additional units. This principle is also applied by drinking water companies, which is why a parallel setup of multiple de-ironing units is sometimes referred to as a “mini water utility.” The system is designed for durability and operational reliability: all de-ironing units are backwashed individually. When one unit regenerates, the others remain in operation, ensuring a continuous supply of de-ironed water. Regeneration takes place in sequence, allowing the process to run efficiently and without interruption.

Through this design, a flow system combines high capacity with reliability and flexibility. It therefore represents a future-oriented solution for situations where large volumes of water are required and the quality of the treated water must consistently be guaranteed.

Can be implemented with both Rem3000 and Rem4000

De-ironing systems

A flow system can be built using either the REM3000 or the REM4000 de-ironing installation. The choice depends on the available space and the required water volume. The REM3000 is available in two variants — 2100 mm and 2600 mm — making it suitable for a variety of situations. For higher capacity demands or when more space is available, the REM4000 provides an ideal alternative. Both installations are designed to ensure reliable and consistent water quality, allowing the system to be precisely tailored to specific conditions.

With a flow system, you can do

without a rinse or clean-water buffer

Unlike a single large installation, a flow system does not require a separate rinse or clean-water buffer. In a large, closed industrial installation, this is necessary. During a backwash cycle, a large volume of rinse water is released in a short time. The sewage system cannot process this volume all at once, so a rinse water buffer is needed to temporarily store it. A flow system works differently. It consists of multiple installations that are connected through Remon-developed software. During a regeneration cycle, the installations are cleaned one by one. The amount of rinse water released in each cycle is limited, allowing it to be discharged without any issue. Thanks to this design, no rinse water buffer is required.

Furthermore, the structure of a flow system also makes a clean-water buffer unnecessary. While one installation is being backwashed, the others remain fully operational, allowing the supply of purified water to continue uninterrupted. In a large, closed installation, this is not possible—a buffer of purified water must be available to meet demand during regeneration. The flow system therefore provides a practical solution: it distributes the load, prevents discharge peaks, and ensures a continuous supply of clean water.

Want to know more about our flow systems?
Central pump set for
Efficient energy consumption

Remon’s flow systems are always equipped with a centrally positioned booster set. This approach is far more efficient than equipping each installation with its own pump. The booster sets are fitted with frequency converters that maintain constant water pressure, regardless of demand. This prevents pressure fluctuations and enhances the reliability of the water installation. By positioning the booster set centrally, in close proximity to the flow system, a consistent water pressure can be achieved efficiently. In addition, the use of a central booster set results in significantly lower energy consumption compared to conventional systems that rely on multiple separate pumps.

Your flow system is a

Scalable installation

Because your water demand can fluctuate throughout the year, it’s reassuring to know that your water treatment system can grow along with you. Remon’s flow system is therefore designed as a scalable installation. This means that units can automatically switch on or off as water demand increases or decreases.

When demand is high, multiple installations operate simultaneously to meet the required capacity. During periods of lower demand, units are scaled down so that only the necessary capacity remains active. This intelligent, scalable operation results in significant energy savings. In addition, the installations are alternated continuously, preventing stagnant water and eliminating the risk of legionella growth.

Your own drinking water installation from
Remon

Remon increasingly installs flow systems at campsites and holiday parks. With the growing popularity of vacations in the Netherlands, parks are expanding and welcoming more guests. As a result, water consumption rises significantly, which naturally leads to higher water costs. For many campsites and recreation parks, producing their own drinking water is therefore a smart investment.

Remon drills the well, installs the flow system that de-irons and aerates the source water, and adds a UV unit to make the water suitable for human consumption. In some cases, we also install an ion exchanger to significantly reduce water hardness. The result is drinking water that fully complies with all IL&T (Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate) testing protocols and is safe for human use.

To offer this drinking water to your guests, you only need to have a periodic water sample taken by an accredited laboratory. With that, you essentially become your own water utility. That’s why at Remon, we often say we’re the largest decentralized drinking water company in the Netherlands — a fact we’re quite proud of.
